Replacement water filters. Is the cost of replacement cartridges a problem?

Replacement water filters. Is the cost of replacement cartridges a problem?

There’s no doubt that you need a water filter in your home, the best water filter in fact. The Ralph Nader Institute estimates there are up to 2100 toxins in our drinking water.

But some water filters are water purifiers that have a part that needs to be replaced from time to time. Not all water purification systems have parts that need regular replacement, but some do. Is this a problem?

The filter medium that filters out all those impurities can become clogged with contaminants and will work less effectively over time, so you need to buy a new filter cartridge.

You can feel great when you throw out that cartridge because you’ve just thrown away those contaminants that you didn’t want to drink.

But it costs money to buy replacement water cartridges and some people choose their water filter based not on choosing the best water filter but on the cost of the cartridges. And that’s not the best way to choose your water filter.

You need to buy the best water filter to filter your water and keep you healthy. You shouldn’t factor in the cost of replacing the filter just to save some bucks, and end up with an inferior water purifier.

But it’s quite true that cost is also an issue for many too. And there is good news for those people.

The best water filters aren’t in fact the most expensive water filters, even with the cost of the cartridges factored in.

In fact the figures show that the best water filters sell for around $100 and with replacements factored in costs 9.6 cents per gallon. Compare that to equivalent products from other manufacturers at- cents per gallon, 20 cents per gallon and 25 cents per gallon and you can see the difference.

In fact of 10 drinking water filters tested the best water filter was the cheapest water filter to buy and use. Good news for anyone on a budget.

So if youre looking for a water filter and are wondering about the cost of cartridge replacements then rest easy, the best water filter is also the cheapest water filter to buy and use. The best replacement water filters are in fact extremely good value.

Does the safety of your drinking water worry you? If it does maybe you’ve spent some time thinking about getting a water filter. There’s so many filters to choose from it’s difficult deciding which is the best water filter.

There’s quite a few things you need to think about before you choose a water filter, and here’s a few of them.

One of the best water filters are carbon water filters. These are both very cost competitive and are also simple to install. And they are some of the most effective water filters you can get. So it’s no surprise that carbon water filters are some of the most popular water filters around. You need to seriously consider a carbon, or AC (activated carbon) water filter.

And as well as the different types of filter there are also different sizes available. You could just get a simple faucet water filter just to filter the water for drinking, but you could also get a whole house water filter so that you filter the water you drink as well as wash in and shower in and wash your clothes in.

If it’s a simple filter you want just for your drinking water you have some options. These include pitcher filters, where you pour water in and it falls into a bowl at the bottom. Or you could get a water filter that goes right onto the faucet and you just turn it on and you’ve got clean water.

A pitcher filter is known to be an effective method of water filtration, it does have one major problem. It tends to be a very slow process so you will need to pour the water into the pitcher hours before you plan to drink it. This water home purifier tends to be very inexpensive, however.

That’s just a few of your options, you need to spend some serious time researching. Budget and your individual needs are both things you need to think about before you get started. But remember, the most important thing is that you’re drinking nice clean water.

Be sure to consider what impurities are affecting your home drinking water, and figure out which water filter system will be the most capable of ensuring that it will be safe for you to drink in the future!

Peter has a website all about the best water filters and water purification and also helps people to produce their own personal websites, an example being http://djmischiff.com

If you've been learning a little about water filters because you're convinced of the benefits of drinking clean purified water you will have come across "charcoal water filters" or "carbon water filters" or "activated carbon water filters". What are these?

If you’ve been learning a little about water filters because you’re convinced of the benefits of drinking clean purified water you will have come across “charcoal water filters” or “carbon water filters” or “activated carbon water filters”. What are these?

Charcoal water filters are filters that use charcoal to remove the contaminants in water during the filtration process. Charcoal is carbon that is created by heating organic matter in the absense of oxygen to high temperature. Commonly coconut husks are used for the organic material.

Charcoal has various properties, primarily that it is extremely porous and this is what is necessary for successful water filtration. These pores allow water, and contaminants, to pass through and for the contaminants to be absorbed by the carbon by means of chemical attraction, because many carbon based or organic compounds are chemically attracted to carbon.

So if that is charcoal, or carbon, filtration, what is activated carbon filtration? Activated carbon, (or AC) filters use a form of carbon that is much more porous than traditional charcoal. This is created during the manufacturing process. The best carbon or charcoal water filters use activated carbon.

In fact it is so porous that it can have anywhere up to 20000 or more square yards of surface area for each ounce of carbon. Now that’s really porous.

You need to replace the filters occasionally in an AC water filter because the filter gradually clogs up with contaminants as they are absorbed by the carbon.

An activated carbon water filter works well filtering a wide range of contaminants, but doesn’t filter all of them, and for this reason the best water filters use a multi stage water filtration process. Not only is the carbon block, or activated carbon filter used but there is a second stage to the process that removes the contaminants that are not removed by activated carbon filtration.

But there is no reliance on carbon filtering alone in the best water filters, because it is recognized that it is inadequate to rely on AC on it’s own due to it’s inability to remove some contaminants. So there is a second stage that filters out these contaminants by other processes, like using ion exchange to exchange lead ions for harmless potassium ions to remove lead from the water.

And there are some very nasty bugs that are also potentially still in the water after the activated carbon filtration process, the two nastiest being cryptosporidium and giardia. These are removed by an extremely fine filtration process.

There you have the basics of water filtration by use of carbon, or what is known as charcoal water filters, or activated carbon water filters. The activated carbon is not 100% successful in removing all contaminants, but when used in a 2 stage process designed to remove the contaminants that are left behind by the AC filter, it works exceedingly well. You should expect around 99% of lead to be removed, for example.

An extremely important factor for your health is you diet, and this includes what you drink. A vital factor in your health is the cleanliness of the water you drink, and most Americans aren't drinking clean drinking water if it comes from the tap.

An extremely important factor for your health is you diet, and this includes what you drink. A vital factor in your health is the cleanliness of the water you drink, and most Americans aren’t drinking clean drinking water if it comes from the tap.

Drinking clean water is essential to our health from a number of different points of view. Right now thousands are dying of Cholera in Zimbabwe from drinking water contaminated with Cholera.

There is no cholera in the US, but that doesn’t mean that our drinking water supplies are clean. In fact there are hundreds of different contaminants that can be found in our drinking water, and although they won’t kill us fast like cholera will they are still damaging to our health over time.

Consider this. I’m sure you know how serious it is to get lead into our bodies. None other than the EPA has stated that lead in drinking water is the number one environmental health threat to our childrens health. Low levels of lead can cause serious problems for children including learning difficulties and behavioral problems and more.

Can you believe that something as dangerous as lead is in our water? We’re drinking lead? Aren’t our water supplies meant to be clean?

Lead is in our water and is an ongoing problem. It comes from many different places but mainly from our pipes. Around 98% of our household plumbing has lead in it in the solder and the joins. So a lot of the lead gets into the water in our house.

The EPA recognises that there is no safe level of lead in our water, that any exposure to lead is dangerous, especially to children.

And lead is just the start. There are hundreds of other contaminants that can be found in our water. We aren’t drinking clean water at all.

This is pretty scary, and you’d be forgiven for wondering what you can do to make sure you’re drinking clean water. How do you make sure your drinking water is clean. Should you be drinking bottled water?

The FDA has said “Companies that market bottled water as being safer than tap water are defrauding the American public.” And there’s good reason for that statement. Simply because there are no government regulations that specify that bottled water should be any safer than tap water. And some bottled water is just tap water, and the price of bottled water is higher, quantity for quantity, than the price of gas. Bottled water is a fraud.

And bottled water is an environmental disaster, with countless plastic bottles manufactured to go into landfill.

So clearly drinking bottled water isn’t the answer to clean water. So what do you do if the prospect of drinking lead or any one of the other contaminants like drugs, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, chlorine or more repulses you? You use a high quality water filter. The best water filters will remove just about all contaminants from the water you drink. The best filters will filter 99.99% of chlorine for instance.

How can you tell if a water filter is the best? It’s perfectly possible to test for how well a water filter works and independent tests are done on water filters, so you can check and compare one to another. And the very best drinking water filters should filter out over about 98% of contaminants in our water, including some you’ve probably never heard about.

Here’s an example. Did you know there was bromochloroacentontrile in your tap water? Never heard of it? What in the world is it? How dangerous is it? It doesn’t matter if you use the best water filter you know that over 97% of it is gone.

So if you’re beginning to get worried about contaminants in your drinking water like lead, you have good reason. You have a right to clean drinking water, but you won’t get it from the faucet. To get seriously clean drinking water you need to use the best drinking water filter possible.

And you’d be forgiven for assuming that the best drinking water filter was the most expensive, but it’s not. Find out more about drinking water filters at my website.
