It can be very difficult to raise vegetarian children. The main thing is to ensure they get enough proteins and dairy in their food. These recipes for vegetarian children can be made for all kids, especially if you just desire your child to consume more vegetables.

Not only, are they good for your kids, they taste wonderful as well.

Vegetable curry – This can be made by chopping some potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, aubergine and zucchini into bite-size pieces and boiling them in coconut milk with curry paste. This healthy dish is a great way to get your kids used to spices. Make the curry mild at first and then make it hotter as your children get used to it.

Spinach ravioli – Either buy these ready-made or make them yourself. Making them yourself will allow you to involve the kids and play games by asking them how many of the ones they make they will eat. Cheese or mushrooms can also be used as a filling. The ravioli with a tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese will ensure your kids eat the spinach they usually avoid.

Vegetable quesadillas – These are very quick and easy to prepare. Place cheese and green and red peppers between two tortilla pieces and toast in your toaster or under the grill until cheese melts and the quesadilla is stuck together. Serve with a home-made salsa incorporating tomatoes, onions and cilantro. Cover with sour cream. This recipe for vegetarian children is very colourful and tastes great.

Grilled vegetable sandwich – Cut some peppers, courgettes, eggplant, onions and tomatoes and marinate in olive oil and dark balsamic vinegar with pepper and salt. Cook the vegetables in the over or on a grill pan until they are soft. Use them to fill toasted slices of whole-wheat bread or herby bread. This healthy lunch recipe for vegetarian youngsters can be served with home-made chips.

You can find many great vegetarian recipes available from many resources. The recipes for vegetarian meals and snacks can provide you with a diverse and flavorful array of healthy alternatives to fast food.

When thinking about updating a home, any realtor will tell you to focus on bathrooms and kitchens. These are the two rooms that buyers will spend most of their energy analyzing. Whether or not you are looking to sell your home, modern kitchens will both appeal to a large number of people and will raise the value of your property.

Every kitchen is different as are the people who will be using the kitchen. Each kitchen will be modernized and if they are done correctly, it will have a great look and will make people want to be there.

Upgrades to your home can be of a wide range of prices. There are upgrades that can be done for a small amount of money as well as upgrades of the more expensive kind. A less expensive upgrade that can be done is to change out all of the fixtures on both the cabinets and the lights. A stainless steel or a brushed nickel is a good choice. Sticking with stainless for a more expensive upgrade would be to swap out all of the current appliances for stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel is a favorite because of its clean look.

Energy efficient appliances are sought after. These are appliances that have been created with the intent that they use less energy. They are good for the planet and they are good for the wallet. These also can be used to possibly get a credit on your taxes. If you were to sell your home and you had these appliances, these would definitely be a plus with buyers.

Upgrading your countertops will give the kitchen a whole new look. Natural stone is the current trend. The most popular stone is granite. This is not a cheap stone but it looks wonderful in a kitchen. It is a very durable stone and will last a long time. Natural stone has also been used on backsplashes and as flooring.

Having wood cabinets and lots of storage in a kitchen is a must. Real wood is liked because it is durable and has the natural that is big currently. Having custom cabinets is also a plus. Going the custom route allows you to get creative and maximize your space in the most efficient way. By getting creative, you can have pull out drawers to save space and have appliances that are housed inside of cabinets when they are not in use. Clean lines are also a good feature to have.

A modern kitchen will have a huge impact on any home, new or old. They are sought after by buyers and done by homeowners to drive up property values. Either way, they are money well spent.

Crock pots are not the same as they once were even if they look the same.

Crock pots are not the same as they once were even if they look the same.

The comfort and satisfaction of a home cooked meal is something everyone delights in. But who can take the time to prepare a full meal these days? Not too many people that I know!

It is really hard to keep up with everyone’s schedule and keep enough for everyone to eat, especially when there are meals to prepare. Crock pots and slow cookers are still an easy way to make dinners and lunches for your family and friends. Today, they have many improvements that make them even easier than ever to use for saving you time and money.

Because of concerns of health and safety, today’s slow cooking is not as slow as it once was. Gone are the days of 6 to 8 hour low heat cooking. The vegetables and meats don’t need to linger at low temperatures all day long for a great tasting meal when you get home for dinner.

Programmable crock pots are everywhere these days making it easy to prepare stews, roasts or even barbecued meats with a little more heat and less time. The programmable timers allow you to set them to start cooking at the right time for your specific recipe. This makes meal preparation a snap

The old standby and the first crock pot Rival is still available along with all the new models. New programmable crock pots can be had in sizes ranging from mini slow cookers to crock pots capable of cooking a large turkey for Thanksgiving to super small, mini crock pots.

Here are some ways of using a crock pot to save time and money:

- Crock pots use less electricity than conventional ovens and need no gas.

- Crock pots don’t get hot, meaning less heat generated in your kitchen on hot summer days.

- You already put time and energy into making dinner before you even turned on the crock pot.

- Cheaper cuts of meat, tenderized by long, slow cooking, saves you money.

- Flavors are enhanced because food cooks slowly in its own juices.

- Water is saved because steam is generated during crock pot cooking.

- Very little prep work, just cut up veggies, add spicing and meat, set and forget.

- Food stays moist even after hours of cooking.

- After the meal is finished, there is only one pot to clean.

- You can feed a big family or a large party with one crock pot.

So if you want to have simple and quick alternative to the long and involved process of making the family dinner everyday, try the new generation slow cooker, the programmable crockpot. You can make all kinds of food in this versatile kitchen appliance quickly and easily. You save time and money making great tasting soups, stews, roasts, curries, chili, casseroles even deserts like bread puddings and custards. You are only limited by your imagination.

Give it a try. Remember, it’s not your mother’s crockpot anymore.

When you are looking all over the internet for the best and greatest in a programmable crock pot or a slow cooker , be aware to know what to look for before buying. You will be able to feed your family wonderful and save energy at the same time. There are many sourcesyou can find what you are searching for but be aware to read reviews and check out the best of the best at my website: http://www.programmablecrockpot.org

As summer’s heat passes and the days begin to get cooler, you can once again start to think about baking some of the wonderful fall deserts to serve warm and complete your dinner. One of the best of those deserts served from the oven is an apple crisp. The apple crisp recipe is pretty simple.

Apple crisps are a part of a family of easy deserts which combine a fruit filling with a pastry topping. There are several other deserts that use the same idea, although the pastry crust may be somewhat different. All of these deserts make up some great comfort foods that help to keep your body warm and satisfied. The crust for a typical apple crisp uses a mixture that works up very much like a streusel. Most toppings contain a combination that includes sugar, flour, butter, oatmeal and may include nuts for additional flavor.

When the desert is done and you open your oven, you will immediately see why this desert is called an apple crisp.

One of the good things about apple crisps is that they are the perfect desert for when the apples begin to get ripe on the trees. Fresh apples make the best apple crisps. One of the best choices is the Granny Smith apple that has a green skin and is very tart. Ice cream makes a wonderful topping for a warm apple crisp. If you want your desert to have extra flavor and color, try adding berries such as raspberries or cranberries to the apple crisp. For the English version, blackberries are a favorite addition.

If your apple crisp recipe calls for old fashioned rolled oats, do not substitute quick cooking oats. Quick cooking oats are cut then steamed and rolled. Old fashioned oats are steamed and rolled while whole. This gives them a much nuttier flavor and the apple crisp topping a much better texture.

To prepare oats into oatmeal, the oats are steamed and rolled flat. Quick cooking oats are cut before the process begins and rolled thinner to cook more quickly. Oatmeal has been shown to help to lower cholesterol. When added with the apples, it is a good way to get fiber into your system.

Here is a quick apple crisp recipe. You are going to need four medium Granny Smith apples. The will need to be peeled and cored. Once the apples are peeled, and sliced place them in a greased 9×13 baking pan. Top the apples with the apple crisp topping.

The topping is made with 3/4 cups of brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, one third coup of margarine, cinnamon and nutmeg. Normally it will take 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of each of the spices, but adjust to taste. Mix these toppings until they form a crumbly mixture and spread over the apples.

Bake your apple crisp for thirty minutes in an oven that has been preheated to 375 degrees. When the apples are tender, the crisp is done.

Serve the apple crisp warm out of the oven topped with ice cream. Leftovers (if there are any) can be warned for about a minute and topped with ice cream.

Eric loves to make apple crisp and this is why he runs a whole website to recipe for apple crisp where you can learn how to make apple crisp at home.

Delicious pasta dishes are only a crock pot away. While it is true that pasta can be a bit tricky in the crock pot, with a little knowledge you will soon be turning out perfect pasta. There are several ways you can do pasta when you use the crock pot, and it all depends on what recipe you decide to make.

Cooking Pasta as a Separate Step

In some crock pot recipes, you will see them recommend preparing your pasta as directed on the package. Once it is done, you can add it to the crock pot or you can serve your meal on top of the noodles. This approach works best with meats and sauces, as well as recipes like stroganoff.

Some recipes may ask you to partially cook your pasta in boiling water until it is just barely tender. They then suggest adding the semi-cooked pasta to the crock pot for the last half hour or so of cooking. You may use this technique with dishes like chicken Alfredo, casseroles and other meals. This method allows the noodles to finish cooking in the crock pot, soaking up some of the flavors in the sauce.

It is true that cooking your pasta separately takes more work on your part. Instead of just dishing up, you need to boil the water and cook the noodles. This method does make sure your noodles are just right, but it will not work with every crock pot pasta recipe.

Cooking Pasta in the Crock Pot

You will find some recipes are meant for uncooked pasta. While these recipes mean less work for you, the pasta will still need to be added near the end of the total cooking time. This technique would work well for a chicken noodle soup recipe, goulash or ramen. Most pasta should be added about 30 to 60 minutes before serving. For ramen, it only needs to cook on high for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Some recipes require you put the pasta in at the beginning, with the other ingredients. Crockpot lasagna is one example. You can also make an incredible macaroni and cheese in the crock pot, but do not leave it for eight hours. This is a recipe that will be done somewhere between 90 minutes and 2 hours. You can also make baked ziti, stuffed pasta shells, and other similar dishes. Be sure to watch the time on these dishes. They probably will not take all day to cook, and you do not want to end up with mush instead of pasta.

Pasta does just fine in the crock pot. All you need to do for success is to use the right approach for each recipe. Pasta is more delicate than something like beans, so keep an eye on the cooker until you know how the recipe will work. Sometimes it may take a few times to get it right.

Before you know it, you will be turning out delicious pasta meals for your family using your crock pot. Comfort food never tasted so good, or was so easy to make.

Chicken soup can be eaten as a meal or a snack. It is a terrific choice when someone is feeling sick. Studies show it can help people get well from colds and flu. As a snack, it is a great way to fill up kids after school yet still leave them hungry enough at dinner time.

One of the best and most popular side dishes to the dinner table has been the mashed potato. Mashed potatoes have come down through generations and has even had a major role in a movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and what would Thanksgiving be without them. The are supposed to present as smooth and creamy but most of the time they may have some delicious lumps of potato and no one seems to mind.

Mashed potatoes can be simple with just a bit of butter, milk, salt and pepper added or they can be a little more complicated with garlic, green onions, or cheese added. Some recipes get very complicated adding a variety of other vegetables, meat product like bacon, and gourmet cheese and then they are baked again making the twice baked potato that is actually mashed potatoes heated up twice.

Instant potatoes are available but they may not taste as good as real ones. Edward Asselbergs, a Canadian scientist patented the process that makes them in’62. He developed a way to dehydrate potatoes and a way to rehydrate and use them in today’s home. There were some early methods patented in’12 and’54 but they didn’t't work as well. Today we don’t have to use instant potatoes but can get tubs or already made mashed potatoes that just have to be heated up in the microwave.

There are some purists that think you should boil a potato and then just mash it with a fork to make mashed potatoes. They say that if you put it in a food processor or mixer the potato cells are damaged releasing their starch making them very sticky however, many kids grew up enjoying those sticky potatoes and make them that way today. The methods of making mashed potatoes differ from household to household from peeling, boiling, and mashing the potatoes with a wire potato masher to baking them in the oven removing the skin and putting them into the electric mixer. In the old days people used a ricer to make smooth potatoes. A ricer is a large sieve like looking thing with a handle connected to a blade. You turn the handle and it squished the potato through the little holes in the body of the apparatus making little worm like potato threads. These can be whipped up with other additives to make a velvety textured mashed potato.

Use russet, Idaho or Yukon Gold potatoes to get the best results when mashing them. To make a simple mashed potato boil two and half pounds of peeled chunked potatoes in 4 quarters of water. After they start to boil just reduce the heat and let them simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until they seem soft when poked with a fork. Drain the potatoes and put them in a bowl and mash them with a wire masher or put them in a mixer bowl and beat them for a few minutes. Add one fourth cup of milk, one fourth cup of butter, one half teaspoon salt and one half teaspoon pepper and mix well. This will feed 6 people

Try this more complicated method of making mashed potatoes if you are in the mood for something different using cheese and sour cream. Ingredients include 8 to 10 potatoes that have been peeled and cut in chunks measuring about 3 pounds, eight ounce package of cream cheese that has come to room temperature, half of a sixteen ounce tub of sour cream, six tablespoons of butter, one fourth teaspoon of garlic salt, one fourth teaspoon of pepper and one half cup of Cheddar cheese that has been shredded. Place the potatoes in a large pan and cover them with water. Bring them to a boil then simmer for about 20 minutes or until the potato is soft when pierced with a fork. Drain them well and put them in the bowl to your mixer. Add the cream cheese, sour cream, and butter and mix on high. Add the garlic salt and pepper and mix very well until a light and fluffy consistency. You have the choice to add the Cheddar and whip it in or just sprinkle it over top and let it melt over the mashed potatoes.

If you are using a wire masher use an up and down motion so that the cells of the potatoes don’t get damaged and become starchy. Butter added to mashed potatoes should always be softened rather then letting it melt while you are making them. If you would like to bring the milk to a simmer before adding to the mashed potatoes they will continue to stay warm and not need to be reheated and they will be silky and creamy. Never let the milk boil however. You can use chicken stock instead of milk to give the mashed potates a different flavor, just watch the salt and taste to make sure they don’t get too salty.

Mashed potatoes are great for a side dish with dinner and your family will just love having them. Add in bacon, chives, onions, and other things to give them more interest or just serve them plain. Use butter, sour cream or a little cheese to give them some vitality or you can top them with gravy. One guarantee, there probably will not be any left after dinner is over.

Our kitchens are the most important room in the home. It draws people close and gets conversations going. It provides a great place to experiment with new recipes and most important it helps us feed and nourish our loved ones. If you have some money to spare at a tight budget, then you can transform this important room into a modern kitchen in no time.

Your kitchen should give you the optimum usage and also should be appealing to the eyes. A popular misconception nowadays is that to obtain such a kitchen, one must spend thousands and thousands of dollars. This is simply not true and there are hundreds of ways to turn your existing kitchen in a modern one.

First get some ideas down on paper and don’t be afraid to include the family. You will be surprised how many ideas come out of just one brainstorming session. Try and find a download site on the internet that will allow you to take a free trial period for a kitchen design package. This way you could play around with many ideas which will allow you to make a lot of mistakes in a virtual world rather than the real world.

By refurbishing your cabinets first, it will give you an overall picture of how your kitchen will take shape from there. Repaint the doors with a good quality enamel paint. If your kitchen does not have ample space, then go with white doors as this will create the illusion of space.

If you want your kitchen to have an ultra modern look, then don’t be afraid to replace the doors with durable glazed fiberglass. Because it’s almost transparent it gives the kitchen a light and airy feel. Now you could place tiny recess lights in your cabinet ceilings to illuminate them even more. Play with tones of pastel light bulbs, for instance soft pink and yellow and also striking is would be lime green. Once the lights are on it will almost feel like you are floating in air.

Next on your list is the counter top. Do not choose a granite top as these are super expensive. There are a myriad of alternatives like using laminate counters. They are stunning to look at and can be customized for you in almost any color. They are affordable as well as durable which will last you for many years to come. Remember also so keep the color contrasting with your cabinets.

Your flooring is the next project and here you can also save a lot of money. Rather opt for vinyl as it is just as durable and modern looking as expensive stone or ceramic, and not to mention the cost of hardwood, although they are beautiful to have in a kitchen. But, if you are on a tight budget then vinyl is perfect for has you can easily mop up spillages. The sheets are easy to lay and you can have a new modern kitchen floor in one day.

Today, almost everyone that owns a home is looking to transform their cluttered kitchens into a more contemporary kitchen. And, in fact, in this day and age when there are so many new and exciting options open to those who want to create kitchens that are modern and contemporary it has become very easy to achieve one’s objectives. All that is required is to work hard, be creative and imaginative and think small and stay within a certain budget.

Colors and even lack of colors is a vital ingredient to creating the ideal contemporary kitchen. What’s more, there are no constraints as to which colors you should choose for your kitchen though it pays to not look beyond three main colors for your kitchen. One color can be dominant throughout your kitchen while another color can provide accent and a third color can be used to provide the perfect finishing touch.

It is certainly quite easy to transform a cluttered up kitchen into one that is modern and very contemporary. All you need is to put in some hard work, use your imagination and stay within your budget. Remember also that creating a contemporary feel and look does not necessarily mean having to limit your color options to just a few colors. However, if you do stick with just three main colors you can achieve amazing results. It would mean having to use one color as the dominant color and then you can use another color to act as an accent and then choose a third color for your accessories as well as to provide a finishing touch.

The more contemporary you want your kitchen to look the more necessary it becomes to keep things sleek and ultra-smooth and it also of course requires using as much gloss as you can. To add gloss you should make use of glass surfaces or even a surface made from a very dark shade of wood which will make things look more opulent and streamlined.

Flooring is another very important aspect to creating a more modern look and fortunately you can add the right kind of flooring without needing to spend an arm and a leg to do so. There are many stylish ceramic tiles that you can purchase within your budget and which will make your kitchen look more modern; or you can also go for vinyl flooring that is smart and relatively inexpensive.

The right kind of lighting will help to create a perfectly contemporary kitchen. So, you need to use cleverly placed lights that will illuminate and bring your kitchen to life by showing off the display cupboards as well as different gadgets and appliances. Recessed lighting can when installed under cupboards help to highlight colors and make the surfaces shine.

You want to eliminate nooks and crannies from your kitchen and instead make everything look sleek and very minimal. You will do well to opt for narrow aluminum skirting boards and aluminum should be widely used in the kitchen while you will also want to avoid using timber, especially in the doors of your kitchen.

And, the overall design must ensure greater symmetry which can be achieved by incorporating integrated side by side refrigerator freezer with matching appliances set on either side. Be sure to use matching cupboards on each side of your appliances. Finally, make sure that the kitchen looks much uncluttered and it even pays to use cross ventilation while doing away with overhead ventilation.

Expresso coffee has been around for a long time but the term that we refer to it by today is relatively new. Expresso coffee is named after espresso the term that originated in Italy to describe individually brewed coffee. Espresso in Italian means brewed for you. There is some popular confusion on what exactly Expresso coffee is.

A popular misconception is that Expresso coffee is different than pother coffee because of the beans that are used. This simply is not true. There are specialty beans that are popular with Expresso coffee but they alone do not make a cup of coffee Expresso coffee.

So if it is not the particular bean it must be the blend. This is only partly true. There are specific blends that are designed for espresso but this blend does not make it expresso. Coffee. While it may be true that a better cup of expresso coffee can be made from a specialty blend this does not mean that you cannot make a cup of espresso out of any bean.

It’s not the bean and it’s not the blend so is it the roast? There is common thought that expresso coffee must be a dark roast coffee. While actually the right roast will vary based on the part of the country you are in. For instance on the east coast of the Us people favor a light roast while Californians tend to prefer a dark roast. The standard in Italy is actually a medium roast. What roast is used depends entirely on personal taste.

Most coffees are about what is in the coffee expresso coffee is about how the coffee was made It is the brewing is what separates expresso coffee from other coffees. Expresso coffee is actually an individually brewed cup of coffee as the name implies in Italian. Unlike most coffee drinks expresso coffee is a shot of coffee that has been brewed from a tablespoon of finely ground coffee beans. A proper definition of expresso coffee would be a shot of coffee produced under a high amount of pressure with very finely ground coffee beans.

The method of making Expresso coffee has been considered by some as an art. While the machine that is used certainly has a factor the amount of pressure that is applied against the grounds when being placed in the filter makes a big difference. A good Expresso coffee will have a small creamy layer on the top. This layer is known as crema. The correct amount of crema is what separates an outstanding cup of Expresso coffee from a mediocre cup of Expresso coffee.

Brewing the coffee is not the only thing that makes Expresso coffee unique. The way it is properly drank is also a unique experience. Expresso should be held up to the nose and smelled by taking a large whiff of the aroma of the Expresso coffee. Then the coffee should be drunk in several swallows. Then the cup should be placed back on the serving saucer with vigor.

Some people may look at a drinker funny if they add sugar to expresso coffee but actually this practice is accepted in Italy. However to truly savor the expresso coffee it should be drank straight. This will allow you to truly enjoy the experience the way it is intended.

Although the summer season is almost over, it’s not time to store away your ice cream maker–pumpkin ice cream anyone? Or if you don’t own an ice cream machine, if you look around, you might come across some good end-of-summer sales and be able to pick one up for really cheap. But how do ice cream machines work?

Basically, all ice cream machines work the same way. You take an ice cream mixture, lower the temp of the mixture until it’s almost frozen while at the same time beating air into the mix.

When it comes to electric ice cream makers, you choices are limited to three different styles. First you have the traditional ice cream maker. This kind of ice cream freezer uses ice and rock salt to bring the ice cream mix to freezing.

Next comes the more recent style of machine. This one features a bowl that you freeze for at least’ hours, before making ice cream. A plus to this kind of machine is less mess than the traditional style.

Last but no least are the compressor ice cream makers. Wanna get rid of ice and rock salt slurry? Don’t want to plan ahead for freezing your bowl? A compressor ice cream freezer, works like your freezer with a built in freezer unit. And not only that but you can whip up ice cream anytime.

But it’s not all good news. These ice cream makers are expensive with some models costing more than a thousand dollars. Also if you looking for easy cleanup, stay away from models that don’t allow you to remove the mixing bowl.

So I guess that’s about it for the three different kinds of ice cream makers. I alluded to earlier that your might now want to put your maker away and here’s why. Sweet potatoes and pumpkins both, are at their peak in fall and go great as ice cream but if that sounds too exotic, try homemade vanilla on pumpkin pie.

Wally Clydesdale’s knowledge in ice cream go back to childhood. He is now a member of Ice Cream Maker Basics.com where he is called up to write on topics related to electric ice cream makers
