If you dig back in the back of your cabinet somewhere, chances are that you will find a blender. Many people buy a blender for some special happening such as a diet or even a party where drinks are to be served. When that special event is over, they shove that blender back to the back of a cabinet and forget that it is there.
If you found your blender, dig it out and lets have some blender fun. If you did not find a blender, then make the investment in this useful little machine.
Blenders are great for babies. They can turn ordinary food into gourmet baby food. Just add the veggies, soups, stews or even meats that you cook for your own family to the blender and puree for great baby food. Avoid spicy foods so that the baby’s tummy does not get upset. This is a much better alternative than buying those jars where you do not know what is included.
A blender can be used to make a fruit smoothie or even a blended iced coffee. Add ice cubes, artificial sweetener or sugar and milk. Blend and serve for a nice cold refreshing treat.
Grind coffee beans. Somewhere along the way, we have got the idea that it takes a special appliance for every task. A blender on the low setting makes a great coffee grinder. Fresh ground coffee has that great taste of all those wonderful coffee shops. Be sure not to blend too long or you can burn your coffee beans.
Grind spices. Once again, use the low setting and grind your own fresh cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, nutmeg or other spices. Freshly ground spices have a much more intense flavor.
You can use your blender to chop nuts. A short blend time will give coarsely ground nuts, a few more seconds gives the fine ground variety. If you want fresh peanut butter, then try making your own in the blender. Add a some roasted peanuts and grind until they turn into peanut butter. Add a few peanuts after the butter forms and grind a little longer for chunky peanut butter.
Use the blender to make fluffy omelets or scrambled eggs. Just break the eggs into the blender and let the stainless steel blades whip air into the eggs.
For perfect gravies with no lumps, fill the blender jar half-full of your cooked gravy and blend for a few seconds. The resulting gravy will be perfect every time.
Yes, blenders still are great for that occasional mixed drink too. For margaritas or pina coladas, you have to have a blender. Virgin versions will be appreciated by those who do not or cannot drink alcohol. Kids will enjoy slushes made by freezing juice in ice cube trays. Blend the cubes of frozen juice with non-frozen juice.
One way to get more use out of your blender is to move it out of its hiding place to the counter top. Many times when we do not see a blender on the counter, we forget how useful the machine can be. If it is in a place where it can be seen, it is not easily forgotten. This is a great little appliance as long as you do not forget about it.
